All deciduous shrubs will be trimmed to maintain growth within space limitations, to maintain or enhance the natural growth habit, or to eliminate diseased or damaged growth.  Some species shall be trimmed appropriately to influence flowering. 

Evergreen shrubs should be trimmed only at times when their growth indicates.  Trimming should be scheduled during non-blooming periods.
